Teacher PD leads to Student Participation in SRS
This follows a teacher professional development held in the summer of 2018 to not only train teachers in GLOBE, but to show them how to incorporate research projects into their science classrooms. In the professional development, teachers learned GLOBE protocols, learning activities, questioning techniques, 5E Inquiry model, how to facilitate student research projects and integrate science data collection into their curriculum. Teachers used these tools and techniques throughout the school year with students and assisted student groups in projects that were submitted to the new Indiana Virtual Science Symposium.
Purdue University College of Science started the Indiana Virtual Science Symposium through sponsorship from the Haliburton Foundation, to excite students about collecting and using data in research projects. Students completed research projects during the 2018-2019 school year and submitted them to the Virtual Science Symposium.
The Midwest SRS, held April 5-7, 2019, was hosted at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The Purdue GLOBE Partnership provided travel support for students attending the Midwest Student Research Symposium through sponsorship from the Halliburton Foundation.
