The GLOBE Water Tent at Grand Valley State University in Michigan
The Annis Water Resources Institute (AWRI) at Grand Valley State University utilized funding from the U.S. GLOBE program to purchase a water tent and a suite of engaging environmental education supplies related to water quality monitoring. This vibrant, hands-on setup made waves at area water festivals this summer, reaching over 1,300 K-12 students with interactive demonstrations focused on the freshwater systems of Michigan.
As a part of the materials purchased, AWRI outreach staff even created aquatic macroinvertebrates cast in resin, giving students a unique opportunity to get an up-close look at these important indicator species. The new supplies were also incorporated into AWRI’s outreach programming during student visits to the institute, further enhancing the immersive learning experiences offered on-site with an additional 500 students.
