It's been a while since we shared daily activities from the GLOBE U.S. Coordination Office! We've had a busy fall, winter and spring. Now that summer is upon us, things are slowing down and we have some time again to give you an update.

The GLOBE Program supports and encourages climate-focused activities that allow participants to look at the Earth as a system and the interconnectedness of the four GLOBE spheres: Atmosphere, Biosphere, Hydrosphere and Pedosphere.
A way that many GLOBE regions and countries, including the GLOBE Implementation Office (GIO), support climate-focused activities and data collection is through the creation and implementation of GLOBE Campaigns, Intensive Observation Periods (IOPs), Data Challenges and other initiatives.

We welcomed our new LAC member, Marta Kingsland. She is the Country Coordinator for Argentina and was previously the Chair of the Education Working Group, among other roles in her extensive experience working with GLOBE. We also had the opportunity to meet the GIO’s new Community Engagement Coordinator, Karl C. Clarke.

GLOBE Protocols have been part of the NASA GLOBE Program since its inception in 1995. The first 11 protocols included air temperature, tree height, water temperature, and soil characterization. On Monday 14 October 2022, our team changed hats from the U.S. Coordination Office ones and put on our NH GLOBE Partnership beanies to spend the afternoon collecting macroinvertebrates and water quality data at the Cocheco River/Hanson Pines site with 4th and 5th graders from Maple Street Magnet School in Rochester, NH. We had so much fun - and our colleague from the University of New Hampshire, a water scientist, and our colleague from the USDA Forest Service came along too! The North American Regional Meeting (NARM) scheduled for 2-4 November 2022, is top on the U.S. Coordination Office minds, and all the planning that goes into this kind of virtual event! Hoping to see you at the GLOBE Annual Meeting next week! Loving the session choices and our team has divided up so we can cover them all.
The U.S. Partner session is on Monday afternoon from 3-5pm ET/1-3pm PT (we will end earlier than that, promise!). Our team will share NARM, SRS, and Yearbook news, we will hear from GPO, and announce two RFPs. I was spending some time in the Adirondacks (NY) with my family the week before July 4th and last week I was in Estes Park, CO with the GLOBE and Earth Systems Science Collaboratives . We’ve been posting alot of news stories lately and making them more interesting with pictures. Alicia discovered that when she was adding alt text to the images, it was changing them all to the same alt text. This isn’t a great thing to have happen and we reported it to GLOBE . In the meantime, Haley found a workaround to the problem so take a look at this short video if you are planning on posting a story with pictures and alt text in the near future.
