GLOBE Grows in Montenegro

Montenegro started the GLOBE Program in 2024. Initially implemented in two schools from different regions of Montenegro, the Program has quickly expanded and is now active in five schools across the country. Nevena Čabrilo from the Bureau for Education Services, serving as the national coordinator, continues to introduce GLOBE to new schools and promote it nationwide.

On 23 April, the Bureau for Education Services of Montenegro organized the conference “Education for Sustainable Development” at the Science and Technology Park in Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro.

During the event, Nevena Čabrilo presented a wide range of initiatives led by the Bureau in the area of education for sustainable development. In her presentation, she emphasized international programs, with a special focus on the GLOBE Program. “New schools will be carefully introduced into the Program to ensure quality integration, as it is a highly demanding program,” she noted during the conference.

The main goal of the conference was to contribute to the improvement of education in educational institutions across Montenegro through the exchange of ideas, experiences, and examples of good practice, with a particular focus on the principles of sustainable development and raising awareness about environmental protection.

The conference was opened by Nataša Gazivoda, Deputy Director of the Bureau for Education Services, who emphasized the strong commitment to education for sustainable development, as demonstrated by the participation of over 200 a ttendees including representatives of institutions, schools, teachers, and students. Marko Vukašinović from the Ministry of Education, Science, and Innovation highlighted that sustainability education is a key pillar for Montenegro’s future and the broader European community.

The conference also included online remarks from Bara Semeráková of the GLOBE Program Europe and Eurasia Region Coordination Office, Danijel Schaffer, Director of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), and Pramod Sharma, Director of the Eco-Schools Programme.
