NASA Response Mappers

Do you live in the southeastern United States, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands? You can become a NASA Response Mapper this hurricane season (Aug. 1–Oct. 31, 2025)! Land cover photos submitted through the GLOBE Observer app routinely through the hurricane season can help disaster response teams track conditions on the ground.

This data request comes from the Disasters Response Coordination System (DRCS) team, part of NASA’s Disasters program. The DRCS provides data from satellites and other NASA sources to emergency responders to help in disaster response efforts and decision-making. Learn more in this NASA Earth Science Applied Sciences article.

  1. Download the GLOBE Observer App and create a GLOBE account or log in with your existing account.
  2. Join the NASA Response Mappers Team.
  3. Use the Landcover Protocol to take land cover photos of the same location periodically, ideally once a week or month, August through October.

Mission SnowGLOBE

In winter 2023, the GLOBE U.S. Coordination Office invited GLOBE educators and students to participate in Mission SnowGLOBE. In partnership with the NASA Investigation of Microphysics and Precipitation for Atlantic Coast-Threatening Snowstorms (IMPACTS) field campaign, students and educators collected measurements during snow events and uploaded the data to the GLOBE website.
