The GLOBE protocol-related learning activities available on this page include documents created by both GLOBE officials and members of the community. Each document has been reviewed by the GLOBE Implementation Office to ensure it meets the program’s educational and accessibility standards.

Students learn about the timing of spring budburst, develop multiple working hypotheses about why timing differs year to year, and test hypotheses using environmental data collected by GLOBE students in Alaska to come to a conclusion about the factors that most impact timing of budburst on paper birch trees. **This activity has an option to get students analyzing data in spreadsheets.

Biosphere Learning Progressions for learners in grades 3-5 developed for GLOBE Mission Earth to align GLOBE Biosphere Protocols, GLOBE Learning Activities and NASA resources with Next Generation Science Standards. Building on concepts developed in grades K-2 that focused on how different organisms live in different habitats and how habitats are being affected by the choices made by humans, students in grades 3-5 examine these characteristics and make inferences about how the interactions among the spheres of the Earth System affect each other. Biosphere Learning Progressions for learners in grades 6-8 developed for GLOBE Mission Earth to align GLOBE Biosphere Protocols, GLOBE Learning Activities and NASA resources with Next Generation Science Standards. In grades 6-8, students explore how the biosphere has been altered by human activities, sometimes damaging it, although changes to environments can have different impacts for different living things. Through participating in a series of GLOBE and NASA learning activities, and collecting data using the GLOBE protocols, students have the opportunity to engage in authentic science data collection as they explore the world in which they live, developing data literacy skills. Using GLOBE and MY NASA DATA educators and students will access NASA satellite data to examine a variety of Earth system interactions.
