ACTIVITY 1 Natural Sciences and Graphics Arts school in Rijeka
(Prirodoslovna i grafička škola Rijeka), Croatia is continually
observing the same fig tree (Ficus carica) since spring 2021. The
fig tree is located in the park in front of the school. Thing to note
is it that the fig tree is quite young and overshadowed by another tree.
However, the branch we are observing is facing south and is exposed to
plenty of sunlight. This year we started observations on October 8th.
We noticed during previous years that the leaves start changing colors
in late October / early November. At the start of the October all leaves
were dark green, color 5GY 3/2.

ACTIVITY 2 and ACTIVITY 3. GrowApp timelapse of the fig can be seen here. The graph of leaves changing color is below. We compared the grren down of our fig with the fig tree of Elementary School Ivana Kukuljevića in Belišće. We shared photos and data in padlet which can be seen here. Noted differences are: the fig tree in Sisak had more gradual change of color, and the leaves have fallen off earlier. The students agree that the difference is due to the change in climate - Belišće is colder, and less windy. This is why the color change happens earlier, but also the tree has yellow leaves for a longer time. In Rijeka, as soon as leaves change color, sometimes even earlier, they get blown off the tree by the strong winds.
