Do Activities About Clouds

The GLOBE Program offers a number of resources for teachers, citizen scientists, and families to engage in science by learning about your environment. Here are a few resources that you can do together as a family.

Cloud Have Names book

Read about Clouds

In each of the Elementary GLOBE Storybooks, the GLOBE Kids (Anita, Simon, and Dennis) model science inquiry skills by posing questions, making observations, collecting data, collaborating, and coming to conclusions. Through the Clouds Elementary GLOBE Storybook (available as free PDF and eBook), “Do you know that clouds have names?,” you can discover different cloud types and learn tips for identifying each.

There is a wide range in the cognitive development, skills, and abilities of children in the K-4 age range. Families of younger children may just want to look through the pictures and talk about what they see.

Do Hands-on Activities

The Elementary GLOBE learning activities use materials commonly found at home and are fun for families to do together. The activities also contain suggestions, where possible, to make it engaging for different ages.

Estimating Cloud Cover - Use blue and white paper, glue and scissors to create sky scenes with different percentages of cloud cover. Then, quiz each other to see who can come up with the correct answer.
