El Paso Community College Shares GLOBE in Classrooms and at Community Events

Dr. John Olgin, GLOBE Partner at El Paso Community College (El Paso, Texas), recently shared some highlights from his Partnership.

Public Outreach

  • The GLOBE Program was highlighted during Tornillo Elementary’s Career Day in February 2023. GLOBE Observer protocols were introduced to highlight how students and teachers of every grade level can utilize the app and learn about the environment. Teachers were shown how to incorporate the app and other GLOBE and NASA resources into their classrooms.

  • During the El Paso Space Festival in September, we provided GLOBE learning modules for the general public, such as learning about aerosols, clouds and soils. The public also learned more about how they could be community scientists using the GLOBE Observer app.

Curriculum Development

  • GLOBE Observer protocols have been implemented in college course curriculum in biology, astronomy and physics courses for the spring and summer 2023 at the EPCC Transmountain campus. We are continuing to expand custom-made laboratory activities using the GLOBE Observer app to help facilitate our open education resources.

  • This September was the debut of a new EDDIE learning module published by the National Science Foundation funded Science Education Resource Center (SERC) program. Geared for middle school through early college courses, students will learn about clouds, data analysis and data quality utilizing the GLOBE database and Observer app. Access the learning module.
